BlockShift is a real estate listing website for apartments in New York City. The application helps users locate a rental that meets their needs in the borough they are interested in. The website lets users save listings and provides a list of recently viewed rentals so the user can return to them later. The listings include all the details the landlord wants to list as well as contact details and multiple images. The user can also view highlighted items, including the type of apartment, borough, neighborhood and specific location. A listing index is also available so users can browse by borough and neighborhood. BlockShift also lets apartment owners list their properties as available on BlockShift. The apartment search tool enables the user to be as specific as they like, with a filter for short term leases, guarantors accepted apartments and amenities including private outdoor spaces, loft, dishwasher, washer and dryer, central air conditioning and furnishings. Users can also further refine search results with the building amenities filter which includes doorman, elevator, swimming pool, live in super, pets allowed, gym, package room, in-building laundry, parking and common outdoor spaces.Show more screenshots »
BlockShift was created by Brad Carter and David Siller. The application was designed to make it easier to find suitable accommodations in New York City. The features included were intended to make BlockShift the easiest real estate website available for the Big Apple. Today, many tenants and landlords connect through BlockShift.
There are two main characteristics that make BlockShift unique. While many real estate websites service numerous areas, BlockShift is focused on the five boroughs of New York City. This allows the application to cater its services to that region. The other reason BlockShift stands out is through its simplicity. The site gives users all the basic tools they need in a way that’s simple to understand.
The BlockShift website maintains a simple design with a primarily black and white color scheme highlighted in hints of deep red. Three navigational links can be found in the upper, left had corner of the page so users can access the listing index, homepage or post a listing. The actual rental listings include multiple large images, owner contact information and details about amenities, location and anything else the owner would like to highlight. The location details and apartment type are highlighted at the very top of the listing along the left hand side.
Visitors to BlockShift can search for apartment listings without creating an account. Those who would like to register can click the red “Register” link in the upper, right hand corner of the page. The form asks the user for a valid email address, password, contact name, phone number, contact email and what agency they represent (this field is optional).
BlockShift offers anyone who is willing to sign up a free account. There are no subscription fees or other charges for using this service. This is definitely a plus because the application offers rather basic features. No premium paid membership option is available at this time, either. Users who would like to list their property as available on BlockShift can also do so for free. The site does not require a listing fee or other fee for its service.
BlockShift is intended for property owners and renters in New York City. Those located in the city can find apartments that meet their needs. Landlords can list their properties on BlockShift to find tenants faster.
